The Araucana is not just an old breed, it is an ancient breed, first reported in Chile in the mid 16th century.
Although they come in several colours the Lavendar is the most striking. The birds also have the unqiue feature of feather tufting around the sides of the face and top of the head where most breeds have combs.
The Lavendar Araucana lays lovely blue green eggs with very strong shells - which is handy if the kids are collecting the eggs!
They are prolific layers, they occasionally go broody and make excellent Mums.
