This breed originated in Sussex, England in the early 1900's as a layer and provider of white meat.
The white body, black tail, black wing tips and striped neck give the breed a striking appearance.
It was bred as a dual purpose bird, chicks mature quickly for a heavy breed and a new hen will lay between 200 - 240 eggs per year.
They do go broody but not as often as other more feathered breeds. They are an active breed but good natured.
